Kendall College - ESL Summer Camp (07/24/13)

Yesterday, after breakfast, we went to the White Sox stadium to go in a behind-the-scenes tour and get to know what really happens there. Our guide was responsible for all the food and beverage served in the restaurants and bars. I think he was the manager there, I'm not quite sure.
He told us how much they charged for the membership, the premium seats and the "skyboxes" (those fancy private rooms). It does really costs a lot, but members are treated like kings and queens. So, if you do have some extra money to spend, it's worth to do it there.

After that, we went to HayMarket to have some lunch. I had a chicken sandwich and french fries.

At night we went to see the Blue Man Group concert, and it was simply amaaazing! I've never seen them before and I really wish I had. Their performance is incredible, they're really good artists and I hope to see them again one day.

Kendall College - ESL Summer Camp (07/23/13)

What's up, Chicagooo?

After the weekend, on Monday, we went to the French Market and met -for the first time- our professor Rob on our way. We've got to know a little bit about how and when the market started. After interviewing some employees who worked there, we found out that most of those restaurants already existed since the French Market started its activity, 3/3 years and a half.
I really liked being there because I was dying to have Italian food (pasta) and I could make it happen.

At night we went to WhirlyBall, a restaurant which looked like a pub, but it was like a play center. There were video games, Laser Tag and WhirlyBall. We played Laser Tag first, got all sweated and kind of tired, then we went to play WhirlyBall. This game is really hard because before playing it, we should've known how to drive that machine. After getting used to it, you start playing well; but still it's hard to score.
We've had lots and lots of fun. Thanks Kendall for the opportunity.

Kendall College - ESL Summer Camp (07/22/13)

Hello there, readers!

This weekend was pretty amazing. On saturday Nathalia and I went to the Vans Warped Tour concert. We saw hundreds of bands playing on tons of different stages. I think everybody gets confused seeing so many bands playing at the same time. It's awesome though, because we got to see bands that are not used to play in Brazil or have never played there. We stood there from 1:30 p.m to 9 p.m, it was exhausting but definitely worth it. I hope I can go to this music festival again one day.

Nathalia having the time of her life.

Here not so much.

Stick To Your Guns' concert.

Several dollars were spent right there.

On sunday we took the subway to the Water Tower Plaza and we had lunch nearby, at the.... then we went shopping. I bought my mom some Victoria`s Secret panties and a shirt to myself. Nathalia bought her a lipstick and lip pencil at Macy`s, but she lost them at the Hershey`s store. That was sad, women just can`t lose what they just bought. But also she bought a dress, so it wasn't that bad after all.

Kendall College - ESL Summer Camp (18/07/13)

Yesterday we went to the Merchandise Mart to have lunch and visit some local business such as show rooms of kitchens, living and dining rooms. Before visiting the show rooms, we ate some pizza. Then we headed to the Dream House Concierge and Giulio Kitchen Design. They're just lovely, extremely expensive as well.
After that, we've got to visit 1871 Incubator, a start-up supporter. A place where start-ups would turn to get help and investment.

Hi there,

Yesterday, after my classes (English and Entrepreneurship), my classmates and I went to see another example of entrepreneurship. Blue Buddha`s owner, Rebecca, started her business by making handmade chain jewelry. Rebecca and her employees make gold and silver rings, necklaces, bracelets.

At night we had dinner at a fancy restaurant called "Monastero's Ristorante" and several meals were served. I think I`ve never eaten that amount of food at the same time in my entire life. That was what I call satisfying.

Kendall College - ESL Summer Camp (07/16/13)

   Hello again.

Yesterday I had my first class at Kendall College. There I met my English teacher Maria and my entrepreneurship bootcamp teacher Aurora. My classmates and I - from Brazil - learned some new vocabulary such as 'word-of-mouth' and 'break even' from the business class. After that, we watched a TV show called "Shark Tank" to understand how entrepreneurship business can be hard and frustrating if you don't have enough money to invest in your project or have the courage to do it so.
Later on that day, we took a bus to visit "Constructive Chaos" and got to know a little bit about how to make an entrepreneurship work. We've had the opportunity to see how much you have to sacrifice (time, money, family) to run your own business.
It was definitely a great experience.

Kendall College - ESL Summer Camp (07/15/13)

Hello there, citizens.

My name's Cesar, I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I'm 22 years old and I study International Relations at IBMR.
I always dreamed of going to the USA. Since I was 15 or something, and for the first time in my life I could make it happen. Thanks to IBMR and my college coordinator Solange for showing me this opportunity and my mother for supporting and helping me afford this expensive trip to Chicago. I arrived here two days ago and I've already spent 40% of all my money, and still need to save it for 12 days more. Me and this group of friends went shopping and things got really out of hand we definitely spent a lot, just because almost everything here is cheaper than Brazil, so we have to take some advantage of it, right?
It's early to say, I know, but this trip has been amazing so far. Let's see what happens over the next few days.

Here's a picture of this lovely city.
